LEARN HOW TO EMBODY THE PRINCIPLES ON AND OFF THE MAT

TAME THE MIND, CONTROL THE SELF
THE BODY IS THE FIRST COMPONENT WE MUST LEARN TO MASTER
I have been teaching yoga since I was 14 years old to work with people to get in touch with their bodies. I work with people to not only correct alignment and posture but also to master their bodies. My classes focus on breath work and alignment. Coming from a traditional Hatha and Ashtanga yoga background, credited to Vyasa Yoga, I focus heavily on the more meditative aspects of yoga rather than 'working out' or 'stretching.' Private classes are tailored to meet any personal goals and group classes usually surround a theme. I try to bring laughter, joy, and thought-provoking conversation to every class.
With yoga therapy, I work with specific ailments that range from Thyroidism to Obesity. Yoga Therapy modules are specific and target the ailment to help relieve tension and pain.
My philosophy as a yoga teacher is very simple: I don't just teach an hour-long practice on the mat, I teach you how to embody that practice off the mat. I encourage my students to not just practice yoga but to BE yoga.
Yoga is an ancient Indian school of thought. Asanas (physical postures) are only a very, very small part of Yoga. The goal of yoga is to tame the mind and one way to do this is by practicing physical yoga Asanas. Asanas are not easy, they can be incredibly challenging and tough. Yoga is meant to be a practice of discomfort. It is a practice. On the mat, you learn how to breathe through the pain, you learn how to remain balanced and stable while standing on your head or sitting in lotus for thirty minutes. You train yourself to remain calm and stable in the toughest positions so that off the mat, you can do the same. Sthira Sukham Asanam, from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, says that every Asana must be steady and comfortable.
Flexibility is not a requirement to learn or teach yoga. A stable forward bend is more aligned to yoga than a shaky scorpion. Yoga is not about arm balances and hyper flexibility, it is about how long and how well you can maintain yourself in a posture. Advanced yoga poses are appealing and exciting to try but they are not the goal of yoga.
I am a transparent, patient, and caring teacher but progress takes time. My goal as a yoga teacher is to introduce to all my students, sustainable, and positive change in an efficient manner.
